On Tuesday September 30 , 2011, Viktor Yanukovych visited the President Komorowski’s seaside residence in Jurata. According to observers, the talks mostly concerned the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw and the arrest of the Ukrainian opposition leader- Yulia Tymoshenko.

In the interview given after the meeting with Yanukovych, Bronislaw Komorowski said: ‘Ukraine put a lot of effort into European Integration and achieved much on the way to it, but there are also some obstacles encountered. One of them is undoubtedly the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko, which in Europe and many countries around the world is perceived as a trial of political, not criminal, nature. This tarnishes the image of Ukraine.’

Despite the earlier press releases about the official character of the Ukrainian President’s visit in Poland, the talks were simply a private meeting. According to the original plan, both presidents were to unveil the monument of the Ukrainian civilians murdered by Armia Krajowa (Home Army) in Sahryn village and monument in Ostrowki in Volhynia, where soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army murdered Poles. Bronislaw Komorowski commented on the matter: ‘Ostrowki needed to be postponed, and so did Sahryn, due to a recent mass grave find. The remains of a few hundred Poles murdered at that time have been preserved in that grave.’
