The US Congress is currently working on a Project wchich would prove that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili damages democratic values in his country. The main example that goes against the President is the political persecution of Bidzina Ivanishvili.
On 26 March, a new bill, prepared by Jim McDermott, arrived in the US Congress. In the document, Mikheil Saakashvili and his government are accused of acting against Georgian opposition: “Democracy in Georgia is facing serious challenges and political freedom and fair competition between political parties is under assault”.
Yet the only oppositionist mentioned in the text is billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili. The bill includes detailed problems of Ivanishvili with re-gaining his Georgian citizenship and establishing the party “Georgian Dream”. It also makes several insinuations. i.e., a suspicious death of Salomon Kimeridze on 27 February 2011.
According to the Polish daily rp.pl, the creation of the bill is the result of activities of lobbyists employed by Bidzina Ivanishvili himself.
