The 7th edition of “Solidarity with Belarus” concert will be held in the centre of Warsaw. On 22 April, the surroundings of the Palace of Culture will be filled with a mix of reggae, rock and folk music performed by Polish and Belarusian bands.
“Solidarity… has become a tradition”, says Mateusz Luft, president of Free Belarus Initiative, which is responsible for holding the concerts. The first edition was organised in March 2006, a week before Belarusian presidential elections. Musicians and guests performing at the concert (Kasia Nosowska, Muniek Staszczyk, Andrzej Wajda, Zbigniew Zamachowski, “Solidarity” movement’s activists and famous Polish actors) made an appeal to Belarusians: “It’s time to be together!”
Six years later, human rights and a freedom of speech are still not observed in Belarus. Thus, there is a need for another edition. “Habakuk, Vavamuffin, R.U.T.A., Maleo Reggae Rockers, Zmitser Vajtsiusjkevitj, Recha” – Agnieszka Arana-Iturri from “Free Belarus” lists the artists who will perform this year. For those who come on 22 April at 7:00 pm outside the Palace of Culture, the organisers have prepared numerous surprises. “The list of bands will be longer”, says Agnieszka.
