Loreen is a Swedish songstress, whose career flies high after the victory in Eurovision Song Contest. But her forte, besides above-average voice and beauty, is her attitude towards human rights protection.
The Swedish singer performed on a scene in Vitebsk, Belarus, at the “Slavic Bazaar” festival – the biggest music event organized by the state – held on 12 July 2012. News about Loreen’s appearance sparked criticism, pointing out that it is a way of endorsing the regime. The artist, however, responded by meeting with Natalia Pinchuk, the wife of imprisoned human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, and representatives of Viasna organization. They talked about a deteriorating situation of human rights in the country as well as of Bialiatski himself. Not for the first time did the 29-year-old manifest her views. During her Eurovision visit in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Swede also met with Azeri human rights defenders.
