New Eastbook Project: NGOmap Contest for Best Local Initiatives in the EaP Countries

NGOmap Contest for best local initiatives from the Eastern Partnership’s countries is a project that we have worked on since the end of 2010. Our initial aim was to gather information on opportunities for those involved in the third sector’s activities in Eastern Europe. After numerous discussions and consultations, we chose an Internet map as the most effective tool to achieve it. At last, the project is ready to launch. Please read about the NGOmap and spread the word among your friends and collegues – we need your help to reach people who would benefit the most from our project.

This new opportunity for civil society in the Eastern Partnership region starts on 20 August. From this day on, NGOmap Contest will be available for citizens of six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The idea of the NGOmap Contest is to give a chance to submit online information about local problems and proposals how to change it.

The coordinator of the project, Lukasz Grajewski from Common Europe Foundation based in Warsaw, Poland, says:

Don’t worry if you don’t have experience, team or money to realize your idea. Using the website ngomap.eu, you can submit your plans and – if you collect the highest number of votes – we will invite you to take part in a study tour to Poland.

The main prize in the NGOmap Contest is a study tour to Poland in October 2012 for 6 representatives of the winning initiatives, one from each country. They will meet experts from the Contest Board to talk about implementation of their projects and experts from the Polish Ministry of Regional Development and representatives of polish non-governmental organizations. Winners will also take part in a lecture about PR and marketing run by professionals from international PR agencies. Lukasz Grajewski:

We don’t have money for winners but we believe that giving a rod is better than giving a fish. That’s why we want to give an opportunity to meet experts, learn know-how and build your own network of international contacts.

From 20 August till 16 September 2012 you have time to submit your ideas. Between 17 and 30 September, everyone can vote for the best local initiative from each country. On 1 October the contest team will announce the results.
