“A Report on the Condition of Culture and NGOs in Ukraine” is second from the series of seven reports introducing and evaluating the independent culture and NGOs of the Eastern Partnership countries and Russia. It has been prepared as part of the project “A Report on the Condition of the Independent Culture and NGOs in the Eastern Partnership Countries and Russia” initiated by the Open Culture Foundation. “A Report…” has made a special issue of the “Kultura Enter” magazine and its electronic versions in Polish, English, and Ukrainian will be available on the online magazine website www.kulturaenter.pl on 15 March.
In “A Report…”, subject matter experts carry out a cross-sectional evaluation of the condition of culture, alternative culture, and NGOs in Ukraine. It is an attempt to portray the current situation with reference to the European context and the internal conditioning in Ukraine. The report attempts at the diagnosis within such areas of interest as: the publishing market, literature, theatre, cinema, musical stage, art as such, cultural infrastructure, the media, civil society, human rights, education, or the legal environment in which culture and NGOs operate.
“A Report on the Condition of Culture and NGOs in Ukraine” constitutes a kind of a guide to the cultural sector and NGOs consisting of articles, studies, report summaries, as well as interviews with outstanding experts and practitioners in these fields. Among included authors are: Zenoviy Mazuryk, OLEKSANDR Butsenko, Mykola Riabchuk, Bohdan Shumylovych, Jerzy Onuch, Andrey Kurkov, Kateryna Botanova, Andriy Kohut, Oksana Zabuzhko, Oleksandr Mykhed, Oksana Kis, Mykhailo Brynykh, Volodymyr Tykhyi, Piotr Kaźmierkiewicz, Svitlana Oleshko, OLEKSANDR Yevtushenko, Andriy Lyubka, Rustem Ablatif, Kateryna Babkina, Terry Sandell.
The authors are predominantly Ukrainian. They have attempted to answer three questions: what is the situation?, what do we expect from each other?, how can we achieve it? An attempt to answer these questions brings closer, in an approachable and understandable manner, the frequently incomprehensible and rejected Ukrainian narration.
The report has been created in cooperation with the Open Culture Foundation, “Kultura Enter” magazine, Kultura Enter Foundation, the “Critic” magazine (Kiev), Workshops of Culture, Managerial Initiatives Foundation.
Project co-financed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, within the frames of a cyclic program Cooperation in Public Diplomacy.
